GERMANY Amberg 1921 25 pfennig Brown Porcelain, 1421-1921 UNC DESCRIPTION: Obverse: depicts St Martins Church bell tower and Meissen crossed swords logo "1421 / 1921"; Reverse: "25 Pf Amberg 1921"; Diameter: 24mm Germany - Porcelain Notgeld ("emergency money" or "necessity money") The majority being produced in 1921 and 1922, at the beginning of a period of hyperinflation following the end of World War I. They were not issued by the central bank (Reichsbank) but by various other institutions such as town savings banks, municipalities, private and state-owned firms. It was therefore not legal tender, but rather a mutually-accepted means of payment in a particular locale or site.
