Metis pouch C:1875 J.Bartleman HBC
Inherited from his father with the same given and surname, John Bartleman treasured this 1875 18k solid gold watch. The hand embroidered Metis deer skin pouch obtained by him c: 1911 protected this valuable historic timepiece which served Bartleman throughout his tenure with the Hudson’s Bay Company, from 1913 to 1950.

An extremely important HBC artifact that actually travelled with John Bartleman as Chief Head Factor while he visited the many Mackenzie-Keewatin HBC outposts that were under his authority and command. This watch was in his possession until the time of his passing c: 1961

The Watch Dial:
Almost mint condition white enamel dial, no hairlines, or other damage, with black Roman numerals, & subsidiary seconds.

Movement: Key wind, running nicely, & keeping accurate time over 24 hours. Fusee ¾ plate movement signed and numbered '4242', and engraved;
“Bracebridge’s Clerkenwell London”
“No. 4242”

Case; Is triple signed, hallmarked, and is 18k solid gold throughout. Triple case serial number matches the watch movement serial number ….”4242”

Outer back cover has the Monogram
“JB” stylized for John Bartleman

Inner back cover has these hallmarks Crown with the numbers 18 beside 4242 (for the serial number) And the Makers initials WW over JW

Inner front cover has these hallmarks WW over JW for the makers marks 4242 (for the serial number “U” date mark for 1875 with “18” beside for the solid 18 Karat gold mark

Outer front cover is plain, no engraving.

Inner side of inner dust cover: WW over JW Crown symbol with 18 beside, and serial # 4242

This Fusee “chain drive” watch is in excellent working order, is all original, and grades 9+ overall out of 10.

Total weight of this watch is 91.88 grams

An important HBC historical artifact with excellent appreciation potential.
