This sixth coin in our popular Butterfly series is a beautiful hologram of a Silvery Blue Butterfly. There are about a dozen subspecies of Silvery Blue (Glaucopsyche lygdamus) but only one of them is found in Canada - subspecies couperi. It can be seen in every province and territory as far north as Tuktoyaktuk (Northwest Territories) but is rarely seen in southwestern Ontario. A single generation of Silvery Blue flies each season; from early May to early July in the south and from mid-June to mid-August in Newfoundland and the north.
