This 2015 series of $10 pure silver coloured coins issued by the Royal Canadian Mint showcases the beauty and sounds of five of the most colourful and distinctive songbirds of Canada. Rich selective colour with a sheer effect has been used on top of the engraved designs to recreate the vibrancy of each bird's colouring in the wild. Each coin is struck in a half-ounce (15.87 grams) of 99.99% pure silver, with a broad diameter of 34mm and a face value of $10.
 
The Design:
Each bird is beautifully painted onto 99.99% fine silver. The first coin in this series has been designed by Canadian artist Derek C. Wicks, featuring a gorgeous portrait of a Northern Cardinal in a tranquil setting. The finely detailed engraving showcases this songbird’s distinctive features, such as the pointed crest atop its thick, short bill, and the soft feathers that lead to its tail. The use of selective colouring recreates the brilliant red plumage of the bird, which is viewed in three-quarter profile, as it sits nestled amidst engraved leaves and flower blossoms.
