Description
Superman™ is one of the iconic images of the 20th century and beyond, and often seen as the greatest superhero ever created, and Supergirl™ is one of the most recognized additions to the Superman saga. This DC Comics Supergirl “Unity” coin is a $10 denomination, dated 2015, featuring selective full colour. Mintage is limited to 30,000 coins. GST/HST exempt.
The DC Comics Originals series has a classic, slightly retro style, recalling the look most comic book fans grew up with and remember fondly. Basing itself on the 1980s DC Comics style, this series celebrates one of the most established looks for the DC Comics pantheon of Super Heroes, including the young heroine in training known as Supergirl™.
The Design:
The image mimics a comic book splash page with a coloured and engraved rendition of SupergirlTM, followed by BatgirlTM and Wonder GirlTM. She flies off to the right of the coin; to her right is a laser-engraved representation of Batgirl and Wonder Girl. Both are depicted in their most recognisable costumes, as Batgirl’s cape billows in the wind and Wonder Girl carries her lasso. They are ready to take action alongside Supergirl, all united in their battle against evil.
Background Story:
Teenager Kara Zor-el was rocketed to Earth from the dying planet Krypton. Faced with an entire world completely unrecognizable from the one she grew up in, she’s the ultimate new girl in school. A girl with astounding might, she struggles to find her identity on her new reluctant home. As the most powerful teenager on the planet, the Girl of Steel possesses all of Superman’s powers—from superhuman strength, speed, and invulnerability all the way down to his flight and enhanced senses. Still learning to control her awesome powers and lacking her cousin’s self-restraint, she may even be more dangerous than the Man of Steel. Disconnected from a world she’s still struggling to comprehend; she’ll find non-stop action and violence from her first minute on this planet.
